TE WHÂNAU PUÂWAITANGA – NEW WINDSOR SCHOOL

Nga Akomanga
Te Whānau Puāwaitanga is a Level 2 Te Reo Māori Bilingual programme where tamariki from years 0through to 6 are catered for. Each class delivers a different percentage of Te Reo Māori as thetamariki progress through the years.
We also have an open door policy & encourage parents and caregivers to get involved with their children’s learning.

Each day starts at 8.55am with ‘whakamoemiti’ - a ritual of preparation for the day including karakia, waiata and kōrero.

What is Bilingual Education?
Bilingual education is where school subjects are taught in two languages and students become confident speakers and writers in both languages by the end of their schooling.  Our tamariki are still fully engaged with activities that involve the whole school, along with learning about other cultures, sports, and performance opportunities of all types.

History
Our Māori Bi-lingual Education programme at New Windsor School was opened in 2002 after the local community identified a need for bi-lingual education in the area. Over the years, the unit has been complimented by a Komiti made up of whanau parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles eager to help all tamariki grow academically and spiritually underthe guidance of the Te Whanau Puawaitanga Kaiako. We look forward to this continuing for many more years.

Wawata
Te Whānau Puāwaitanga tamariki are guided and supported to achieve academically, to participatein all curriculum areas and to manaaki tētahi ki tētahi - nurture and strengthen relationships that arereflective of our tikanga Māori.
